Program PFCALC is used to aid the design process in applying impingement cooling to various combustion system components. Given a proposed impingement cooling geometry and flow boundary conditions the program will calculate the flow distribution and the impingement heat transfer coefficients.
PFCALC is based on the Vax Fortran program DPHTC.FOR originated by W. Goodwin (circa. 1984). The initial use of program DPHTC.FOR was in designing the impingement sleeve for the MS7001 F transition piece. Program PFCALC is similar in basic concept to DPHTC but has been expanded to handle a greater variety of geometries and flow situations.

The PFCALC version 2.0 program is used to aid the design process in applying impingement cooling to various combustion system components. The program calculates the flow distribution and the impingement heat transfer coefficients for a given impingement cooling geometry and flow boundary conditions. The basic problem, which the PFCALC program is designed to solve, is shown in Figure 1.
