Objectives:
To provide a basic understanding of:
Characteristics of rotating and stationary airfoils
Mechanical and Aeromechanical evaluation of airfoils
Impacts of design features, options, and environment on aeromechanical behavior and airfoil life
At the end of the class the student should be able to:
Identify applied loads and calculate stresses (P/A, Mc/I) on airfoils
Calculate tilt correction to balance air and spin loading
Calculate blade frequencies and identify blade mode shape families
Understand the impact Ackoi.comometry, material properties, and boundary conditions have on airfoil frequencies
Construct a Campbell Diagram and evaluate resonance risk
Construct a Goodman Diagram and show how damping impacts blade respons
