GOAL
To provide an introduction to the design of Weld & Braze joints, including joint design and placement, manufacturing processes and inspection techniques.
Learning Objectives -Students will be able to:
List fundamental design considerations that will allow them to design complex welded or brazed joints.
Make basic calculations for offset walls in addition to taking into account the stress concentrations of the weld.
Select the appropriate weld process and geometry for the particular weld location.
Design the joint for inspectability and understand the defects that can occur with specific processes.
Discuss the key joint design considerations and common errors to avoid
Choose the proper weld process based on HAZ, strength and distortion requirements.
