The course will cover basic principles for Ultrasound, Eddy Current,
Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiography and Metrology including
video demonstrations and Probability of Detection (POD)
Goal/Description:
This session is intended to provide engineers with a basic understanding of the nondestructive testing (NDT) and metrology methods used for machine components. The course will cover basic principles for Ultrasound, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Radiography and Metrology including video demonstrations and Probability of Detection (POD).
Learning Objectives - Student will be able to:
List the basic NDT and metrology methods used on machine components and the underlying physics behind those methods.
List examples of NDT test equipment and how machine components are inspected using that equipment.
Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the basic NDT methods in order to choose the best one for a given inspection need.
Identify characteristics of good and bad NDT drawing notes.
Describe the statistical nature of NDT, inspection capability and POD and their implications for NDT drawing notes.
